Biomass used for power to promote a new bioeconomy. The port of Ghent in Belgium will see Abengoa to develop the largest biomass power plant (215MW) in the world.
- The plant will produce 215 MW of electricity and heat from sustainable biomass
- The amount of the project will exceed 315 million euro
Ghent has been debating on energy issues this year and face an uncertain scenarios for upcoming years.
November 5, 2014- Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been selected by the electricity and gas company, Belgian Eco Energy (Bee), to develop the largest commercial plant in the world of new construction in Ghent (Belgium), which will produce 215 MW of electricity, being one hundred percent of the raw material biomass (wood chips and agro-residues). The amount of the project will exceed 315 million euro.
Abengoa will be responsible for the engineering, design and construction of the plant. The project is expected to create up to 1,100 jobs during the execution phase.
The plant of Abengoa in Ghent will use as raw material wood chips and agro-residues. Through the technology of “Circulated Fluidized Bed” the biomass is transformed into high pressure steam, which subsequently passes through a steam turbine to produce electricity.
Requiring no support fossil fuels, the plant will generate 215 MW of clean energy, free from carbon dioxide, which will be used for the power supply industry. And thanks to a system called “district heating” approximately 100 MW of thermal energy will be distributed to supply heating to industries and households in the city of Ghent.
With the development of this new plant, Abengoa will support Belgium being closer to achieve the environmental objectives set by the European Union. Abengoa has biomass plants in Europe, Latin America and the United States that meet the criteria of responsibility, energy efficiency and provide large economic and social benefits in the communities in which they are installed.

Bee Power Gent is one of the three plants that will still benefit from the green certificates for electricity production on the basis of biomass, which the government of Flanders has recently abolished for new projects. The other two are renovated coal plants belonging to Electrabel and E.ON, which will both work on the basis of classic wood pellets. The Bee Power Gent plant will function on another type of fuel, such as plantation wood and wood waste.
According to Engineeringnet.be, Bee Power Gent emphasises the environment-friendliness of the project. The founders say the plant will be established in an industrial area with relatively little habitation, the biomass fuel will be supplied via ships and the plant will emit clean air.
Bee Power Gent should become operational at the end of 2017.
We are Rexworld industries limited energy power company
please give me your project report. ?
I have interest Boimasa energy power project I
India maharashtra state. …
Irrational developments for a market that could be sustainable. But not in this way!
The huge amounts of biomass will require pharaonic transports to feed this crazy project. Those will not be “Carbon-neutral”!Impossible economic sustainability for this insanity without subsidies, but someone will pay for it…!
Biomass is a great solution but only for use of local sources in medium-sized facilities.
May be you want to invest in Indpnesia that many plantation production forest with fast growing species and the widely arket energy …..
Very possitive news!
An alternative solution in decreasing the fossil based energy!
Sithe Global Sustainable Oils Cameroon Limited (SG SOC) is an agricultural company developing oil palm plantations in the South West Region of Cameroon. We have a Presidential approval of a leasehold (Concession) of 19,843 ha from the Government of Cameroon. We generate approximately 400 MT of biomass through land clearing and preparation.
At the moment, we are very interesting partnering with potential developer and off-takers for wood chips.
SG SOC have acquired a wood chipper to produce wood chip for marketing for renewable energy projects. We wish to inquire of possible potential partnership.
Please kindly contact me on oben@heraklesfarmscameroon.com if interested for more details.

We need the approximate quantity of tons of wood pellets per month.
Construction will be with the Italia/Swiss conglamorate that are already constucting projects in different parts of the world.
Thanks,
